Spot Solutions recently completed the OpenRoad Heart Staff Recognition Application, a cross platform, peer to peer, Staff Recognition application designed to actively encourage and recognize OpenRoad associates for providing exceptional customer service. This simple, fun and easy to use mobile hybrid application allows OpenRoad Auto Group associates to commend other associates for doing something special, over and above their normal duties, for a customer or for another associate.
Yokohama Tire Information Security Compliance
Yokohama Tire Canada periodically needs to implement new business policies as directed by their Japan based parent corporation. Information Security Compliance self-assessments were instituted to gauge the efficiency, effectiveness and completeness by which Information Security controls were implemented across Canadian operations. Spot Solutions delivered a SharePoint application which combined SQL Server DB, SharePoint survey, Business Connectivity Services, JD Edwards ERP, and Cognos BI technologies to provide Yokohama Tire Canada a solution which satisfied their security policy standards.
A SharePoint Internal Portal (Intranet)
Parkland County Alberta was seeking an internal portal (Intranet) solution based on Microsoft SharePoint for their employee base, including council members (up to 200 users), with full Active Directory integration. Additional Integration with the records management software (HP TRIM), the email environment (internally hostedMS Exchange 2010 Standard), and the existing network shares (NTFS file servers) was required. Parkland County engaged Spot Solutions for the design, architecture, build, test and training of the internal SharePoint portal for corporate use. The design included federated search of their legacy Intranet site and a subset of their shared drives.
Financial Tracking Application
Spot Solutions developed a complex financial tracking application that facilitates a politically sensitive and highly visible incentive program that gives British Columbians financial rebates for making their buildings more energy efficient. This business critical, award winning, application interfaced with the Canadian Government’s energy efficiency system, and the BC Government’s enterprise accounting system.
City of Surrey & RCMP Collaboration Site
City of Surrey & RCMP has engaged Spot Solutions to provide a variety of SharePoint services to migrate their SharePoint 2007 platform to a SharePoint 2013 environment which will serve as a model for all BC Detachments within the “E” Division and eventually all RCMP Divisions nationwide. The RCMP Communications Team collaborated with Spot Solutions to define all information architecture, web analytics, security, taxonomic navigation, enterprise search, and content migration requirements. The Spot Solutions Project Team then worked with the RCMP IT Team to deploy SharePoint 2013 with all required services, features, and French language packs via a repeatable PowerShell scripting process.
WBI Home Warranty Tracking System
Home warranty insurance is mandated by the provincial government where all residential builders are required to be licensed by the Homeowner Protection Office (HPO) and arrange to have third-party home warranty insurance (provided by licensed insurance companies) on proposed new homes prior to obtaining a building permit. WBI Home Warranty Ltd. is the exclusive administrator in BC and Alberta on behalf of their insurance company which provides this home warranty insurance. WBI engaged Spot Solutions to design, build, test, deploy and host an application to manage their home warranty business.
Gibraltar Mines Action Card Workflows
Taseko is the owner (75%) and operator of the Gibraltar copper-molybdenum mine, located in south-central British Columbia, the second largest open pit copper mine in Canada and the largest employer in the Cariboo region. Gibraltar Mines utilizes a SharePoint 2007 Intranet to manage departmental communications regarding incident tracking and resolution across their mine operations. Gibraltar contacted Spot Solutions to deliver a new SharePoint workflow solution to manage the processes for Action Cards Tracking and to enhance the existing Corrective Action Logs workflow solution. These automated workflows manage the activity lifecycles and send reminder notifications to responsible parties.
BC Commercial Fisheries Web-Based Training Portal
Much of the information pertaining to training and certification requirements for existing commercial fishermen and individuals wishing to enter the industry resides across many websites, requiring the user to search in multiple locations. This information is not always presented in a straight forward and easy to read manner. The Web-Based Training Portal developed by Spot Solutions leads the commercial fisherman through a selection of choices/parameters from which they are directed to training and certification requirements, attendant training opportunities, as well as potential funding sources for the training.
POLCYB is a not-for-profit society whose goal is to enhance international partnerships of professionals to prevent and combat crimes in cyberspace. Their membership is comprised of law enforcement, criminal justice, corporate security, and academic institutions from all over the planet. They required a highly secure environment to host their sensitive member only portal data, which is built on SharePoint platform. Given the goal of tackling cybercrimes, the site itself becomes a large target for hackers. Therefore, they hired Spot Solutions to provide on-going security monitoring and support to ensure their data is secure.
WorkSafe BC SharePoint Support and Consultation
WorkSafe BC (the Workers’ Compensation Board) is an independent statutory agency that serves nearly 2.3 million workers and about 200,000 employers throughout British Columbia, and WorkSafe BC currently employs in excess of 2,800 people.Spot Solutions has been engaged as the preferred vendor under a five year contract to provide a range of services including: consultation, creation and assessment of best practices; infrastructure & architecture consultations and assessments; software upgrades and implementations; solution development including using out-of-the-box-functionality; training for technical staff on features, developed solutions or overall software knowledge; related project management; other services related to Microsoft SharePoint, .NET & K2 projects,including but not limited to support services and post support implementation services.
College of Dental Surgeons of BC Website Redevelopment
The CDSBC registers, certifies and regulates dentists and certified dental assistants in BC in the public interest. Spot Solutions led a team to redesign the existing CDSBC InternetWeb site for a SharePoint 2013 platform. The solution involves security permissions for the 3 User Roles (Public User; Private User; Administrator), a cost-effective SharePoint licensing model (Extranet; Unlimited external access for Public Users), an authentication method based on a MS Dynamic CRM Database Authentication provider, and an application integration model based on a SharePoint web part hosted ASP.NET application.
Daishowa-Marubeni International Intranet Site Redesign
DMI manages 2.7 million hectares of public forest in Alberta under two Forest Management Agreements to supply the majority of its deciduous fibre requirements for the pulp mill in Peace River. DMI and Spot Solutions completed a SharePoint Deployment Planning Services engagement to provide guidance for migration of the existing Front Page Intranet site used by DMI Peace River Pulp Division to communicate Mill Certification, Forest Certification, and Safety standards to permanent and contract personnel to a SharePoint 2013 platform. A highly acclaimed BC graphic artist and web designer was contracted to design a vibrant look-and-feel for the site pages. The Client and Project IT Teams collaborated remotely for SharePoint 2013 installation via PowerShell script to deploy publishing features, taxonomic navigation, enterprise search, content migration, and Active Directory to SharePoint User Profile synchronization.
BC Innovation Council (BCIC) Website
The BC Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training in consultation with small business owners in BC determined that many small business owners are unaware of existing programs and resources to help them register their business, grow their business and receive mentoring from experienced business leaders. The BCIC was contracted by the Ministry as the Project Manager for the Mentorship BC Program, and in turn contracted with Spot Solutions to develop the Small Business Mentoring Website (MentorshipBC) and Database. Spot Solutions designed the MentorshipBC Database and Search Algorithm and delivered a complete solution for Administrator Maintenance Pages, CMS Engine Development for Static Web site Content using SharePointWeb page Templates, Mentorship Program Enrolment Forms,Web site Feedback Forms, Blog Sub-Site, Mobile Optimized Sub-Site, Web Analytics, and Search Engine Optimization. This SharePoint 2010 Web Application is hosted by Spot Solutions at our advanced Enterprise-level Canadian hosting facility.
Carlson Wagonlit Travel Bilingual Team Mate Site
CWT has a worldwide presence with offices in more than 150 countries and territories, and Carlson Wagonlit Travel Canada has over 175 locations coast to coast. The CWT Team Mate site is a secured, bilingual extranet portal available to agents across Canada. It is written in ColdFusion with a SQL Server 2008 Database. The current site with hundreds of static pages was not easy to maintain from a content perspective and had engaged Spot Solutions to create a new site using SharePoint 2013. The new SharePoint Extranet site will manage documents associated with the site and to manage the site navigation and content. The site integrates with and displays the appropriate ColdFusion components which manage all data collection and business logic and our team developed a streamlined application-based user authentication and access to SharePoint through a SAML identity provider. Support for English and French versions was provided by activating the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature to create Variations. SharePoint Language Packs are installed on all SharePoint ServerWeb Front End and Application Servers to optimize searching for documents written in French.
VFPA Truck Licensing System (TLS) Application Review and Needs Assessment
As legislated by the Canadian Federal government, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA) developed and currently manages a Truck Licensing System (TLS) for all drayage companies transporting marine containers within, to and from Port facilities. Spot Solutions was commissioned to conduct an in-depth review of the current TLS, a gap/needs analysis gap/needs analysis of the existing TLS in consideration of VFPA’s trucking program and planned future requirements, and development of a recommended strategy/roadmap for the evolution of TLS to an enhanced and integrated Land Operations System.
Community Healthcare and Resource Directory
The Community Healthcare and Resource Directory (CHARD) application provides an exhaustive, province-wide directory of health care services and practitioners allowing health care professionals to locate information about health care practitioners and services in both the public and for-profit systems. The directory includes details such as services provided, referral process and forms, physician-only contact information, services fees, specialty and sub-specialty areas, research interests and more. The directory also indicates whether or not the practitioner is accepting new patients. The directory is primarily a web-based, self-serve application with a small support centre to assist users in accessing the directory or revising/adding a listing. The web-based application is not accessible by the general public and includes a security layer that prevents access without authorization.
Allteck Electronic Timesheet System (ETS) Business Analysis
As a leading provider of specialized contracting services, Allteck delivers end-to-end high voltage solutions for the electric power industry. Allteck’s current systems and processes for collecting timesheet data, reviewing it, entering it into the back-end financial system (JDE), and reporting on the data were inefficient and outdated. Time was wasted in trying to send a timesheet from the person who enters the data to the next people down the line who review and approve the data. Allteck’s executive team had given full sponsorship to a project to implement a standard Electronic Timesheet System (ETS) which would collect timesheet data from a wide range of devices across all areas of the company, streamline the review and approval of this data, integrate with JDE and provide better reporting than is available now. Spot Solutions was engaged to lead the process of requirements gathering to identify and prioritize the features and functionality of the proposed software.
Sustainable Forestry Initiative Upgrade
The SFI program was launched as one of the U.S. forest sector’s contributions to the vision of sustainable development established by the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. SFI maintains national forestry practices standards backed by third-party audits. The project that Spot Solutions developed for SFI upgraded the search portion of their public website (http://www.sfiprogram.org), provided staff with the ability to manage the approval of certificates and logos, and provided contact management functionality for SFI staff.
FII BC Product Directory Database
Forestry Innovation Investment Limited (FII) works collaboratively with the federal government and the B.C. forest industry to maintain and grow demand for B.C. wood products. The Spot Solutions team designed and built a database to store supplier, product, species and certificate information for suppliers with SFI, PFOC and CSA certification. We also designed and built an automated import process, created an interface to allow web users to search this database, and created a website display with visual cues that a company is certified.
Water Use Reporting Centre
The Water Use Reporting Centre was developed for the Okanagan Basin Water Board, and funded in part by the BC Ministries of the Environment, Community Development and Sports and Healthy Living. Water Use Reporting Centre provides water utilities with the ability to report monthly their groundwater and surface water usage, along with lake and reservoir levels and snow course depth. This project is a pilot project for a province-wide deployment in conjunction with revisions to the Water Act.
BC Skills Connect Tracking and Invoicing System
The BC Skills Connect Tracking and Invoicing System was built for the Ministry of Economic Development. It is a comprehensive tracking system and financial application that supports the government program to provide financial support for recent immigrants to obtain job related skills in the BC workplace. It tracks contract performance and creates invoices to reimburse the training organizations a percentage of their expenses and a proportionate administrative fee. This application is absolutely business critical to this government program.
BC Early Hearing SharePoint Web Portal
The BC Early Hearing Program (BCEHP) is part of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). It is a unique program to the PHSA because many of the members of the BCEHP are not employees, and therefore do not have access to the PHSA intranet. Spot Solutions advised the BCEHP, developed the solution, using SharePoint 2007, and now hosts the community of practice site for over 300 program members over the Internet.
SharePoint CMS for Port Mann/Highway 1 Improvement Project
The PMH1 Project is one component of the three road and bridge improvement projects included in the larger Gateway Program. The main goal of the Gateway Program is to open the Province’s transportation network, improving the movement of people, goods and transit throughout the Lower Mainland. Transportation Investment Corporation (TI Corp) was seeking a qualified SharePoint solution specialist to provide website design and development services for the Port Mann/Highway 1 (PMH1) Improvement Project. Spot Solutions customized the CMS tool to use templates that could be updated by staff, and the ability to add new channels as required. The redesign of the website included re-branding to reflect TI Corp’s visual identity standards, and updates to improve the audience-based navigation to provide a more intuitive site experience for visitors.
West Coast Express Point of Sale System
West Coast Express is a commuter train provider and required a new point of sale system for their front counter staff. Spot Solutions designed, built and implement a custom system to meet their particular needs for greatly improved the operational efficiency and financial tracking of their business operations.
Petrosul Sulphur Tracking System
Spot Solutions custom-built a complex financial application to track the costs, the proportionate ownership, and the selling price of sulphur, which is produced as byproduct of the natural gas extraction process in British Columbia and Alberta. This application is absolutely critical to the business operations of our client and processes hundreds of millions of dollars per year of financial transactions.
BCR Marine Container Tracking Business-to-Business E-Commerce Site
This online interface was designed as a working application to track shipping containers at the Port of Vancouver. Besides presenting a professional corporate persona, this system performed three major functional tasks. First it showed the general public the schedule of ships arriving in and leaving from the Port of Vancouver. Second, this application provided a private login area for truckers to make appointments to deliver and pick up containers from the BCR Marine port facilities. Third, this application provided the general public as well as registered users the ability to search for the status of particular containers or whole cargos.
Material Tracking System
Created for Conair Aerospace, the Spot Solutions team developed a kiosk application for installation at various locations throughout the client’s aircraft maintenance facilities. Used by aircraft maintenance technicians and engineers, this system tracks and organizes the distribution of aircraft maintenance parts and supplies throughout the airport hanger complex.
Community Engagement Advisory Network (CEAN)
The Community Engagement Advisory Network (CEAN) is a group of members of the public who support patient and public involvement in health service planning and decision-making at Vancouver Coastal Health. Spot Solutions provides hosting for this portal which links staff with community groups and organizations. The CEAN allows members to participate in discussions and forums about new health strategies; respond to questionnaires and surveys about various health services; review content and user-friendliness of patient information materials; connect with other public engagement opportunities in health.
BC Review Board Case Management System
The BC Review Board Case Management System is a computer application that tracked the distribution of paper and electronic documents to members of the BC Review Board, a legislatively mandated body to review the incarceration of those found not criminally responsible on account of mental disorder. Spot Solutions was engaged by the Ministry of the Attorney General to upgrade this legacy Oracle Forms application to newer technology standards while enhancing certain functionality. We were then engaged in a long term support and enhancement engagement as the key technology providers for this application that is central to the operations of this organization.
Snow Avalanche and Weather System
This Snow Avalanche and Weather System (SAWS) for BC’s Ministry of Transportation tracks a comprehensive range of avalanche and weather data that is used to assist the BC Ministry of Transportation in their mission to improve the efficiency and safety of BC’s highway system. Spot Solutions was engaged to enhance the functionality of this critical software system through the use of Oracle RDBMS and the Oracle JVM.
Our team developed an interface for the Pulmonary Analysis equipment for BC Children’s Hospital. This application was critical to the operation of the diagnostic laboratory and tracked patient, study and measurement data, including producing detailed medical reports for attachment to the patient’s medical file.
SuperHost Migration for Tourism BC
To assist Tourism BC with their mandate to promote tourism in BC, Spot Solutions planned, organized and executed an extensive migration project of over 16 mission-critical, interconnected hosted applications from legacy hardware and outdated operating systems to new, state-of-the-art infrastructure platforms. This included server design and configuration, web servers, security, SSL certificates, PCI compliance, HTTP redirects, external and internal database servers, mapping software, SharePoint, and many additional components and technologies.
2010 Olympics Infrastructure Support
Spot Solutions is proud to have provided networking and infrastructure support personnel to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver/Whistler. The extensive training and experience of our seasoned networking professionals proved a valuable asset to VANOC before, during and after the games. Venues supported included BC Place Stadium (Open/closing and victory ceremonies, both Olympics and Paralympics), Plaza of Nations (Staging ground for all ceremonies, Media infrastructure, OCG IT infrastructure), and Canada Hockey Place (Men’s and Women’s hockey including medal rounds, staging grounds for opening ceremonies).
Custom Software Application
The Spot Solutions team developed this secure messaging application to communicate confidential patient medical laboratory test results between the laboratory and requesting physician. Because of the confidential nature of the data, security and reliability of the messaging system was of critical importance.
GetCheckedOnline Web Application
This confidential online testing website was developed by Spot Solutions for the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) and Health Shared Services BC (HSSBC). The web-based application provides information and online Sexually Transmitted Infection (“STI”) testing to the public. Dealing with highly sensitive and confidential health data, this application had to incorporate the highest levels of security. Based on a SharePoint 2010 platform, the GetCheckedOnline application includes a public informational website (https://getcheckedonline.com), a web application for registered clients and an administrative application that controls the logic used on the site and manages test results and notifications.
Cystic Fibrosis Mobile Therapy Application
As a charitable donation, Spot Solutions is developing a mobile application that assists Cystic Fibrosis patients, who must undergo a demanding daily routine of physical therapy designed to keep the lungs free of congestion and infection. This application provides both a diverting experience during the otherwise grueling daily physical therapy, but also documents the treatment regime for later review by the patient’s medical practitioner.
