CHARD:

The Community Healthcare and Resource Directory (CHARD) application provides an exhaustive, province-wide directory of health care services and practitioners. It allows health care professionals to locate information about health care practitioners and services in both the public and for-profit systems. The directory includes details such as services provided, referral processes and forms, physician-only contact information, services fees, specialty and sub-specialty areas, research interests and more. The directory also indicates whether or not the practitioner is accepting new patients. The directory is primarily a web-based, self-serve application with a small support centre to assist users in accessing the directory or in revising or adding a listing. The web-based application is not accessible by the general public and includes a security layer that prevents access without authorization.

Sustainable Forestry Institute:

The SFI program was launched as one of the U.S. forest sector’s contributions to the vision of sustainable development established by the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. The SFI maintains national forestry practices standards backed by third-party audits. The project that SPOT SOLUTIONS developed for the SFI upgraded the search portion of their public website (www.sfi.org), provided staff with the ability to manage the approval of certificates and logos and provided contact management functionality for SFI staff.

FII BC Product Directory Database

FII BC Product Directory Database:

Forestry Innovation Investment Limited (FII) works collaboratively with the federal government and the B.C. forest industry to maintain and grow demand for B.C. wood products. The SPOT SOLUTIONS team designed and built a database to store supplier, product, species and certificate information for suppliers with SFI, PFOC and CSA certification. We also designed and built an automated import process, created an interface to allow web users to search this database and created a website display with visual cues that a company is certified.

LiveSmart BC Efficiency Incentive Program:

SPOT SOLUTIONS developed a complex financial tracking application that facilitates a politically sensitive and highly visible incentive program that gives British Columbians financial rebates for making their buildings more energy efficient. This business-critical, award-winning application interfaced with the Canadian Government’s energy efficiency tracking system and the BC Government’s enterprise accounting system.

SWURT

SWURT:

The Simplified Water Use Reporting Tool was developed for the Okanagan Basin Water Board and was funded in part by the BC Ministries of the Environment, Community Development and Sports and Healthy Living. SWURT provides water utilities with the ability to report monthly their groundwater and surface water usage, along with lake and reservoir levels and snow course depth. This project is a pilot project for a province-wide deployment in conjunction with revisions to the Water Act.

BC Skills Connect Tracking and Invoicing System:

The BC Skills Connect Tracking and Invoicing System was built for the Ministry of Economic Development. It is a comprehensive tracking system and financial application that supports a government program that provides financial support for recent immigrants obtaining job-related skills in the BC workplace. It tracks contract performance and creates invoices to reimburse the training organizations a percentage of their expenses and a proportionate administrative fee. This application is absolutely business critical to this government program.

BC Oil and Gas Tenure

e-Payments for BC Oil and Gas Tenure:

The Titles and Offshore Division of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources is responsible for the administration and delivery of Oil and Gas tenure acquisition and maintenance in British Columbia. SPOT SOLUTIONS built a complex financial application to facilitate these sales to the public, to integrate with the province’s accounting system, and to perform automated bank debits and reimbursements.

Portfolio Management System:

This application tracks and analyzes data on thousands of commercial real estate leases, and several hundred thousand buildings worldwide, and facilitated the distribution of this data to a geographically diverse client base.

West Coast Express Point of Sale System:

West Coast Express, a commuter train service provider, required a new point of sale system for their front counter staff. SPOT SOLUTIONS designed, built and implemented a custom system to meet their particular needs for greatly improving the operational efficiency and financial tracking of their business operations.

SPOT SOLUTIONS custom built a complex financial application to track the costs, the proportionate ownership, and the selling price of sulphur, which is produced as a byproduct of the natural gas extraction process in British Columbia and Alberta.

SPOT SOLUTIONS developed a comprehensive order tracking system for a retail marketing firm. The application contained all of the standard components of an order entry system – customer information, payment information, shipping information, etc.

Fast Track/On the Ground Project Tracking System:

SPOT SOLUTIONS designed and developed an Internet/Intranet web based application to support two programs newly established by the Ministry of Small Business and Economic Development –Fast Track and On-The-Ground. These programs support the development and permitting of new businesses in British Columbia.

This online interface allowed truckers to track and schedule pick up of shipping containers at the Port of Vancouver.

This application tracked all parameters of contracts let by the Ministry of Social Development and Economic Security, including extensive management reporting and financial accounting functionality.

Material Tracking System:

Created for Conair Aerospace, this system tracks and organizes the distribution of aircraft maintenance parts and supplies throughout the airport hanger complex.

Authorization Tracking System:

This tracking system, built for the Ministry of Small Business and Economic Development and Ministry of Management Services, facilitates a client-centered service approach aimed at providing clients of these Ministries with one source of information about all the licenses, permits, and registrations needed to conduct business in the region.

This web-site and Business to Business portal allowed this firm’s customers to submit and track issues and complaints on their paper orders; it also displayed live stock data.

This is a state-of-the-art cruise ship reservation application used extensively in Europe for mid-size cruise ship reservations.

This Intranet web-based application was created for the Ministry of Human Resources who use forms extensively in their business processes to do everything from requesting budget transfers to dealing with FOI requests, security processing, fraud allegations and other activities.

This Snow Avalanche and Weather System (SAWS) for BC’s Ministry of Transportation tracks a comprehensive range of avalanche and weather data that is used to assist the BC Ministry of Transportation in their mission to improve the efficiency and safety of BC’s highway system.

2010 Legacies Now Project Tracking System:

This project, completed for 2010 Legacies Now and the Ministry of Small Business and Economic Development, was to design and develop an Internet/Intranet web-based application to support 2010 Legacies Now participation with committees, issues, interactions and issuing of financial grants.

MINFILE Online Provincial Mineral Data Repository

MINFILE Online Provincial Mineral Data Repository:

The MINFILE application and database contain geological, location and economic information on over 12,300 metallic, industrial mineral and coal occurrences in British Columbia. MINFILE is a world-class resource used by industry, governments, universities and the public to find information on documented mineralization anywhere in British Columbia.

WorkBC Website:

The WorkBC website is a multi-lingual online guide to employment resources in British Columbia, built for the Government of BC. Written in English and Mandarin, it is targeted to people living in the rest of Canada as well as those living elsewhere in the world, encouraging them to move to and work in B.C.

BCEHP Web Portal

BCEHP Web Portal:

The BC Early Hearing Program, part of the Provincial Health Services Authority, required a Community of Practice extranet portal for their geographically and logically diverse set of users. SPOT SOLUTIONS worked closely with representatives of the BCEHP to identify and build the tools, access, security and membership required for the portal. This portal was originally based on SharePoint 2003 technology and was later migrated to MOSS 2007.

2010 Commerce Centre:

This project created a website portal and associated applications to inform, educate and connect BC businesses to Olympic Games-related opportunities. This site is a place for the business community to access news, information, resources and business opportunities related to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver/Whistler.

PATC had been consolidating the business operations of several distinct operating units in California, Florida, Colorado and B.C. and integrating their respective staff into an effective whole that can extend the best practices of each. SPOT SOLUTIONS developed a robust, scalable infrastructure to facilitate their business operations. This included creating a Wide Area Network, Active Directory, Domain Controllers, SharePoint server, Exchange Server, File Server and several custom applications.

Nutri-Lawn Inc. is a lawn care company with franchise operations all over North America. SPOT SOLUTIONS developed a flexible custom newsletter engine for the corporate head office which facilitated their very specific communication needs with tens of thousands of interested clients each month.

ECDV/EMPR Teamwork Site

ECDV/EMPR Teamwork Site:

The ECDV/EMPR Teamwork Site was developed by SPOT SOLUTIONS to provide a shared collaborative environment for all software developers and system administrators that provide services to two provincial government ministries – the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources. This site was to become the Server and Application Change Control center.

BidRaiser.org:

SPOT SOLUTIONS designed, built and operates a non-profit auction website. The website is available to any qualifying non-profit agencies who wish to hold an online auction to raise funds. The fee for using the site is a 5% donation of profits to SPOT SOLUTIONS’ charity of choice. The site can be seen at www.bidraiser.org.

EMPR/ECDV Website MOSS Conversion

EMPR/ECDV Website MOSS Conversion:

This project for the Ministry of Economic Development (ECDV) and the Ministry of Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources (EMPR) provided a significant upgrade to both Ministry’s inter- and intranet environment. SPOT SOLUTIONS converted over 30 SharePoint 2003 sites to MOSS 2007, converted the main EMPR website (over 10,000 pages) from a site that was maintained by Front Page to use MOSS 2007, and converted the main ED website from Front Page to MOSS 2007. We also provided training for approximately 100 content authors and editors.

ActNow BC Daily Physical Activity Tracker :

The ActNow BC Daily Physical Activity Tracker is a web-based application that is part of the www.actnowbc.ca web project. This is a multi-year partnership-based government platform involving government and other agencies to support healthy lifestyle choices, supported by the ministry’s strong link to physical activity and marketing. The DPA Tracker allows users to track their individual physical activity to achieve weekly activity goals.

eNewsletters Builder

eNewsletters Builder:

SPOT SOLUTIONS produced a custom-designed and built newsletter application for use across all Ministries and groups within the BC Government. The interface to the newsletter application is intuitive, graphical and easy to use. The database collects statistics on the number of newsletters successfully sent, number of email addresses that bounced back or returned an out-of-office notice, the number of email addresses that were unsubscribed, etc. System parameters can be set to automatically unsubscribe an address after a specified number of bounces.

The purpose of this project is to collect BC Sport and Recreation activity data and recreation levels. This data allows the Government to measure the health benefits to achieve goals for 2010.

Property File

Property File:

The Property File is a large online collection of generally unique documents acquired by the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources over the last 100 years. This project places approximately 100,000 documents online for access by researchers, geoscientists and the public. Property File contains unpublished reports, theses and papers, filed notes, company prospectuses and pamphlets, historical information, geology, geochemistry, geophysics and drill information, claim maps, sketches of workings and photographs. Property File also contains general information on each NTS area, the National Mineral Inventory cards, topographic maps and some work histories. Research material is indexed and cross referenced in the MINFILE database.

Mineral Title Clarification:

There are over 1.6 million private land parcels in BC, any of which could potentially have privately owned mineral rights. In addition there are almost one million Crown land parcels, some of which may also have privately owned mineral rights. The goal of Mineral Title Clarification Project (MTC) was to provide, for the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, other ministries of the BC Government and the general public, information about who owns mineral rights in the Province of British Columbia. The project is multi-year and involves detailed research of current titles through the Land Titles Office and Tantalis, the BC Government's Crown Land database.

Happy Corner Preschool Members Site:

The SPOT SOLUTIONS team designed, built and hosts an extensive members-only portal for the Happy Corner Parent Participation Pre-School. This portal is based on MOSS 2007 technology and contains lists, calendar, shared documents, links, pictures, Google map of all member locations, announcements, contacts, etc. This site was developed and is maintained and hosted by SPOT SOLUTIONS as a complimentary service to this deserving non-profit organization.

This site was developed for the Lord Selkirk Elementary School, part of the Vancouver School Board, in close collaboration with that school’s Parent Advisory Council. This website extensively improved the existing site and added content management capabilities to allow school administration staff, including non-technical users, the ability to edit their own content. This site was developed and is maintained and hosted by SPOT SOLUTIONS as a complimentary service to this deserving non-profit organization. It is part of a larger initiative to develop re-usable components and a general portal infrastructure optimized for the particular constraints and needs of local schools. ECDV/EMPR Infrastructure Restructuring Project

ECDV/EMPR Infrastructure Restructuring Project:

Two Ministries, the Ministry of Economic Development (ECDV)and the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources (EMPR), shared a complex infrastructure of approximately 21 servers with a mix of web servers, application servers, SQL and Oracle database servers, SharePoint server and others. These Ministries wanted to both upgrade all hardware and operating system software and provide a reliable environment for mission-critical applications. They turned to SPOT SOLUTIONS, who brings a solid background of expertise in both hosting and application development to ensure that the planning and execution of the project was completed on time and in budget.

Pulmonary Interface:

Our team developed an interface for the Pulmonary Analysis equipment for BC Children's Hospital. This application was critical to the operation of the diagnostic laboratory and tracked patient, study and measurement data, including producing detailed medical reports for attachment to the patient’s medical file.

SuperHost Migration for Tourism BC

SuperHost Migration for Tourism BC:

To assist Tourism BC with their mandate to promote tourism in BC, SPOT SOLUTIONS planned, organized and executed an extensive migration project of over 16 mission-critical, interconnected hosted applications from legacy hardware and outdated operating systems to new, state-of-the-art infrastructure platforms. This included server design and configuration, web servers, security, SSL certificates, PCI compliance, HTTP redirects, external and internal database servers, mapping software, SharePoint, and many additional components and technologies.

2010 Olympics Infrastructure Support:

SPOT SOLUTIONS is proud to have provided networking and infrastructure support personnel to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver and Whistler. The extensive training and experience of our seasoned networking professionals proved a valuable asset to VANOC before, during and after the games. Venues supported included BC Place Stadium (opening and closing and victory ceremonies for both the Olympics and Paralympics), Plaza of Nations (staging ground for all ceremonies, media infrastructure, OCG IT infrastructure), and Canada Hockey Place (men’s and women’s hockey including medal rounds, and staging grounds for opening ceremonies).

EMPR IT Strategic Plan

EMPR IT Strategic Plan:

SPOT SOLUTIONS was contracted to prepare an IT strategic plan for the Ministry of Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources, Minerals and Mining division. We first prepared an overview of the Ministry and the Division, followed by the Division’s Strategic Plan, and then discussed the Functional Business Model. The Functional Business Model examined the business functions that are conducted by the Division and the strategic objective they support, and identified the technology that supports them. Next, we looked in more detail at the data architecture and the current systems and technology. Eighteen recommendations were made, with a qualifier of “Immediate”, “Intermediate” or “Long Term”. Finally, SPOT SOLUTIONS summarized the nine “Intermediate” recommendations into an Action Plan and, where possible, provided rough estimates of resources required to complete them.

PHSA Lab Website:

The SPOT SOLUTIONS team developed and hosted a secure extranet information website for the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) Laboratory Enterprise employees. This site provided a library of detailed information on a current Transition Project, Laboratory Initiatives, Quality, Communications and Education and Training for the large and geographically diverse staff.
